I have a sister who had just turned 51 and then passed away. She was diagnosed with Als in May 2007 and then passed away May 2008. It is a terrible disease my parents and I took care of her and her husband would come on the days he did not work. I wished we had more time together it all happened to fast. At first she was diagnosed with Multipule Sclerosis, she was dragging her foot and loosing her voice. I have has Multipule Sclerosis for twenty years had been progressing allot in the last two years. Because of this I think they thought she might have Ms but then as it got worse they did more testing and found out it was ALS it was hard on the whole family and we miss her very much today. I’am now fourty-six and it has been two years and life has changed allot when I feel really bad with my MS I feel blessed that its just that and not something as bad as ALS. I wish more people would know what ALS is ! I thank peolple like you who can change someones life it is a blessing. My prayers go out to all the families that have to watch a loved on go through this.
    God bless

  3. Susan Goff says:

My son, Carl McDonald was diagnosed with ALS on April 1, 2005. To me that was the day the sky fell, but not to Carl. It was the beginning of a battle to overcome that is still raging for him. During this battle our family has been able to see what a truly wonderful man Carl is. He always smiles & says “I’m OK Mama”. His goal is to see that his wife and 2 sons are taken care of. I thank God every day for such a man that he gave to us & we all thank Him for everyday we have with Carl and that Carl can be with his family.

Josie, I watched the program aired this past Sunday night and wanted to let you know that Dwayne Bass that did some of the work in your room is my nephew. When Dwayne asked me if I had anything to donate I gave him the saddle that once belonged to my children when they were your age. My children used it on a little Shetlan pony and had many hours of enjoyment. I hope you enjoy it as well. You have a wonderful family and a lovely mother. God be with you and the family as we pray for you. Enjoy your lovely room with the saddle chair and your new home. Love to you and your family. Marcia Rowland, Gray Georgia

  7. Steve Barron says:

Im Steve Barron CEO of http://www.FauxWoodBeams.com . We donated the fake wood beams and trim in the Williams home. i just want to thank Nation Wide for making this possible for the family!! It feels great to be a small part of their lives.

  8. Dan Gaylor says:

I was Jeremy’s baseball coach in the Eastern League in Columbus Georgia. Jeremy was known as the “Georgia Assissan” at Memphis State as the starting safety for 4 years because of his bone jaring hits. He was also a baseball pitcher. He was the ace of the staff and I think he was 12-0 on the City Championship Cardinals. He broke his collar bone in the playoffs and we had to settle for 2nd place in the state because we were short one pitcher. “Jeremy”. Jeremy is a gifted athelete and a winner and a fighter and one classy human. They just don’t come any better.

  9. My hopes and prayers go out to the Williams family…I know how the loss of a family member to this kind of killer feels, all you can do is stand by and be there and pray for a cure…

  10. lisa says:

really enjoyed being a part of helping out the williams family.

  11. Christy Phegley says:

My mother was diagnosed in July 2009 with ALS. She is 77 yrs old and it’s getting close to one year after diagnosis and we have already seen significant progression. Her breathing capabilities, speech, unable to have any upper body strength, but she still walks. She has been the mother role model of all time. College education with master’s degree as a 3rd grade teacher for 20 years. She went to 9 years night school to get her first degree so my brother and I did not have to have babysitters and my dad could take care of us. She lives by her wonderful Bible and has raised me like the good old days. Dinner on the table, prayers before dinner, main course, vegetable, fruit, and dessert every night of my life, took us to church, Friday nights we got Pepsi and a snack and played games, etc. She is very scared and worried, but does have her very strong faith in the Lord. I provide childcare full time and have my own 10-yr-old and 21-yr-old daughters and I’m my parents’ full-time cook, secretary, errand girl, doctor appointment maker, I attend every doctor’s appointment with her and my father and my 10-yr-old and I see my parents about 5 nights a week. We live only a couple miles. I simply let the things go at our house that I can and do for them what is necessary. As long as we have clean clothes, my daughter has her homework done, and she’s in bed on time every school night, then sometimes the dishes get left and the clothes don’t get folded. I enjoy helping my mom and dad more than anyone could imagine. This disease is horrific to say the least. I’m trying to live for today and make each day the best as Jeremy mentioned.
That’s all you can do. IT’S SO GREAT TO SEE THAT YOU HELPED THIS FAMILY. Families of ALS patients do need lots of help and I can see that most people don’t even know what to do and it’s extremely difficult on the entire family. My parents have been married 59 years and my father is having a rough way to do. I’m just blessed we live close enough to do anything and everything for them. I get run down sometimes and I just keep on keepin on cause there is no other choice. However, I do have my moments I wonder when I can just have a day’s break.

WAY TO GO EXTREME MAKEOVER AND KEEP ON PUTTING ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER Jeremy, your wife, and kids and hang onto the Lord with all your might.

    Love, CHRISTY :o )

  12. Elayne McGlaun says:

I have done a lot of volunteering in my day, but when I volunteered to work on this project, it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done… Our school competes against Coach WIlliams school and learned of his ALS. Let’s support them and help find a cure.

  14. Joe Murphy says:

My brother-in-law works for Nationwide Homes,a sponsor for this endeavor,so I have been keeping up with the story.I have been touched because I too am a football coach in S.C. and my wife and I have a son who has been sick since he was born.I will continue to pray for the family and look forward to watching the show on Sunday.God Bless!

  15. Susan says:

My prayers are with the Williams family to be strong. You are so very deserving of this home and I know you feel like it is a dream come true….and my wishes are for the family to live, love and enjoy for many years.

  16. Jasmine says:

    i will give a dollar

  17. Michelle says:

I am blessed that others are reaching out to the Williams family. My father passed away from ALS about two years ago. When he was diagnosed with ALS he was already in the late stages of this disease. This disease took him quickly. My father fought until the end but he was determined not to let this diease take his spirit. ALS is something not everyone knows about. I try to teach people that they need to know what this can do to a person, keep them informed of ALS. We need more awareness out there for ALS.

  18. muriah corine sims says:

My dad was diagnosed with crohns disease when i was born and he died when i was 14 because of it i know its not the same but when you lose a family member to a disease it isn’t easy i wish you all the best.i was one of the volunteers that helped the family and it felt good to help a family that couldn’t do it themselves

  19. Maureen Malke says:

My Mom was diagnosed with ALS after ruling out several other diseases. She always had a smile on her face, no matter when you were with her. She was able to remain at home thanks to myself, brother and husband. There was never a day that I would wish for a cure. I would have done anything for my Mom. This is great that you are helping this family. I feel so bad for the family and Jeremy. I will pray for them. I hope that Jeremy will be able to enjoy his family. My Mom lived for 3 years and everyday that I had her alive was a blessing. She was the best. I miss her so much.

  20. Dana Becker says:

My husband died of ALS 3 weeks ago and it is indeed a devastating disease. What most people don’t realize is it affects the entire family not just the patient. You guys have done a great thing for a most deserving family.

  21. jessica langdale says:

  24. Marilyn and Michael McCabe says:

While out at Crested Butte with the Onondaga Ski Club this February, we “met” Jacob when the Adaptive crew was preparing to take them “skiing”. Jacob was a little apprehensive, but took a short “run” on his “skis” right in front of us. At the end of that, I got down on my knees and congratulated him, and we exchanged “high fives”. He seemed pretty relaxed after that run.
After a day of skiing, we again crossed paths. I asked him if he had fun, and got back a thumbs up. Someone in his contingent said something like “He’s so tired he’s speechless, which is saying something for him”.
It was a treat for us to “meet” Jacob, to see him and his family out enjoying a great day in a great place partaking of a wonderful winter activity. We hope they can continue. to do so.

After reading the Williams story, the people at Extreme Makeover need to be commended… you people are GREAT! We hope to catch the broadcast here in Central New York.

  28. We are called to serve. And my heart and life was changed forever by working with the staff of Nationwide Homes. Andy, Wade, Anthony, Dan, and all the members of the Nationwide Team were so invested in the Williams family that they were willing to met any challenge. Without this dedication this project would not have been the HUGE success it was. My life has been made better because of you! And if you called me today to work with you again I would JUMP at the chance! God Bless you ALL!

It was so awesome to see thousands of people come together for one wonderful cause and work tirelessly to make sure everything was perfect.
